Dance makes the world of the authentic Powers That Be Visible

The dance of hula can appear to an outsider to be only for their entertainment. What is not well known, is that the traditional hula dance is a system of shamanism. a ritualistic way of opening up, dependent on the dancers' ability to focus her consciousness. All hula dances need to have words to them. Hawaiian is an oral tradition passed on in the form of chants. It is a wonderfully expressive language, deserving to be ranked on the top of the list for the most intricate of poetry. The songs of hula often refer to the natural beauty of the Islands. Trust that this is a metaphor for other things. To study hula in a Halau (hula dance studio), is to receive and express the teachings of the embedded layers of ancient wisdom.

Over time, we will be exploring the deeper meanings of hula. To do so, we must always remember that the dance holds all the colors of light... the rainbow path. The dances contain specific movements to widen consciousness. They mirror the movements of the creation of earth herself. The experience of dancing hula is a rite of passage. To the dedicated it becomes a path of spirit, as she moves from the creative womb of darkness into the light of knowledge.
